It’s no secret that Facebook treats your personal data as a commodity. But when that data ends up on the open market, you may be surprised at the price it fetches: in this case, less than half a thousandth of a penny:

It's probably only worth that amount because....well, that's all it's worth.

So the guy has a load of addresses and names, so what? Nothing that hasn't been available for years in a phone book (didn't read all the article btw).

One piece of data, on it's own, like my name and address is useless.

It's the aggregation of that data and meaningful patterns drawn from it that may be useful....but he would need more data points than just a name and address.

Anything you upload on facebook becomes their property. It's up to the user how much data they upload.

In saying that, it's sneaky how it's integrates with your mobile etc these days. Their terms and conditions are a load of shíte.

I also agree that its both the responsibilty of the user and facebook to protect its users information.
