Help me find a SNES game

Because i posted about this in another thread, now i'm mad to find out what it is!!

I'm 99% sure it's a SNES game, a 2D platformer with a lot of (inaccurate) jumping from floating platform to floating platform. I'm nearly sure it was one of those games that had a single screen and loads a different screen when you went up/down/left/right, and you were some guy who was going from town to town completing quests/challenges for different guilds collecting armor and weapons (definitely swords).

I probably won't even recognise the name, but i would recognise a picture/video. I never completed it as it frustrated me beyond belief, and i keep getting vague flashes of it when i think of it.

U sure it's definately a SNES game. From what you described it sounds very like a NES game called Faxanadu

    Definitely not a Castlevania game.

Not Ys either, was definitely English.

Very similar to that, but i don't think that's it.

Again, similar style, but not it.

I'm nearly certain it was SNES as i remember it being a bit graphically better than the NES.

    Nope, none of them :(

It was definitely a 2D platformer, not an Zelda-esqe style RPG.

It's sickening, as everything i try to remember more it keeps coming back to a fuzz of a quest/challenge where i kept losing (can't make out exactly what it was) and horrible jumping mechanics with constantly missing the jump and falling down 3 or 4 screens...

Also, going to open it up to other consoles just in case.

Hmm. I am intrigued now. I played nearly every SNES game at some time but there are a few that it could be. Is it a Rastan, or black tiger type game? Both of them had head wrecking jumping mechanics.

Was the main character cartoon like or more like a rastan style?

I will throw out another few :)

    Was it Hagane??

    Sparkster??

    blackthorne?? (loads like you said)

None of them, i think it tried to stay realistic (or, i never got far enough to get to the unrealistic parts).

Not like Rastan, was less detailed? I just keep seeing like a Knight, slowly upgrading armor and swords, jumping around alot (can't even remember using the sword tbh). From what i played, it seemed to all be set in towns, going from one guild to the next, needing a certain upgrade to complete other challenges for each guild. A lot of vertical scrolling through jumping. But, in a screen by screen style (at least, that's how i remember it).

You started out with just a rag covering your crotch if i remember correctly, then you got cheap shoes, a top, pants, and started working you way up through to armor. You went into houses/doors to talk to the different Guilds. Would have been around the early 90's to 95 (Pre-Playstation)

(I swear to God if this is all in my head, i had a really active imagination as a child!)

Wizards and warriors? Armor, floating platforms and multiple screen falls. :)

BOOM!!! Fairly sure that's it, but i remember it looking better! And a bit different. Maybe it was a remake? (I got kinda excited when i saw the jumping!)

Edit: Or maybe this isn't it, but the jumping is exactly how i remember it, but there were more towns, and i'm 100% certain there were challenges for Guilds (for some reason i keep recalling Wood Guild, Iron Guild, etc).

try the other wizards and warriors. The 3rd was not it i say as you became a thief and wizard also.
The rage from getting to the top of the level and falling to the bottom.
Watch the YouTube video's as it more enjoy able then screaming at the tv when he falls.

A jaysus Wizards and Warriors looks nothing like a SNES game. Really hated those games although for the time they were good. There's 3 W&W games so it could be one of those.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,382 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Wizards and Warriors 3, that's exactly the one (I only YouTubed 1 & 2...). YouTube part 1 of a playthrough and i'm back playing it.

Couldn't even get that first statue for the Thieves Guild.

So, in summary, it was a NES game with Guilds (Thieves, Warriors and Wizards, not Iron and Wood), a Knight with armor and a sword and scrolling levels. Guess things just aint how you remember them sometimes.

    Cheers to everyone!

I saw your post on the other thread and saw no replies so glad you got your answer.

I just watched a TAS version of that game (completed game in about 17mins) and I don't envy those jumping sequences as they look mental. In fact the whole games looking like one massive jumping puzzle and punishing at that. Reminds me of a lot of NES games around that time

Here was vid I watched (Warning the ending credits of the game may be epilepsy-inducing!!)

Obviously he skipped some areas etc as explained at http://tasvideos.org/401M.html
