    hi,
i have connected my new sky hd box to my AV Amp via HDMI cable.
in the audio settings of my hd box i cannot see any dolby output via hdmi.
there is one option for optical out.
does the hdmi cable on sky hd box send dolby signals where available?
i played few hd channels but i do not see dolby output on my amp?
    any suggestions?

dolby is only available via optical out . the hdmi only carries stereo.

you need to connect both hdmi and optical to the amp.

And only if someone is actually transmitting it. Mostly they are not.

Pretty sure one of the newer sky boxes does carry 5.1 over hdmi, unsure which one though.

connect with optical cable is always best keep volume on tv turned down and just use your surround sound system on 2 channel or 5 channel its up to you . and also depends on what surround sound system you have . works great with bose
