Thre are trackers on a rep from each of the 26 counties as well the lead and sweep vehicles so you can follow the progress of the race leaders and the individuals if you wish at http://www.tracksmart.info/dublin2012

Over 2000 runners have also signed up for the App tracker which uses the signal from their mobile phone to track them live for their friends and family to follow live on a Google map on their smart phone. If you haven't signed up yet there is still time to download the app from Itunes and for Androids also.

Mugs are the sign of a race that is run using traditional methods (ie. Ballycotton) and none of this technology business...

This technology malarky will never catch on

Ballycotton uses chip timing. They tried one year without and the following year came back to chips.

Bear in mind that the trackers are optional so if someone does not like the technology just pass on by and ignore it.

Ah, clever. But he loses the effect by using technology to make his anti-technology point.

Oh I am all for the technology, I think it's a great idea... How does it work though do you need to carry your phone to be tracked?

Tracksmart had two products on offer. The runners represeting each county and the lead trackers were all followed using a purpose built tracker carried in the vehicle or on the runners armband. The other tracking system was using your mobile phone and an app that you downloaded.

We hope to roll it out to more races in Ireland in the coming season.
