ok, so i had my bike in for a service today in one of my lbs...not the shop i bought it in. when i was collecting it they seemed to be a bit concerned that the size of my bike is a bit small for me, bikes a 56 frame in 6ft 3.
ive not really had any problems with the fit of my bike, the ould derrière was a bit sore after 80 odd k over the cooley mtns last week but other than that nothing to report....
according to the lads in the shop i really need a 60 frame, but according to the trek FAQ page, the size i have is adequite enough for someone my size?

    http://www.trekbikes.com/faq/questions.php?questionid=63

im somewhat puzzled after tonights conversation

I ride a Trek also and I got a bike fit done with Leo in Irish fit he recommended a size 56 and I am 5' 10", had a few problems before the fit as I was on a 54, but since the fit everything is fine.

@ macadam, when i was buying my bike, i took a few bikes our for a spin and found the bike i currently have to be grand for me, both fit and price wise :D. the chap told me this evening that i can change the stem to a longer one if i encounter any problems.

If you're comfortable on it and you can get the correct saddle height without a ridiculous amount of saddle post, I'd just ride and enjoy it!

yeah c3po ive got a comfortable position, but just curious about what the chap ment by changing the stem? my mate has a stem on his bike that seems to have a greater degree of "pitch" on it? is this the type i could need?
the current stem on my bike is Bontrager SSR, 10 degree, 31.8mm

What's really relevant in your case is the length of the stem - on a road bike it's usually somewhere between 100-130mm long! If you put a longer stem on, it stretches your riding position!

ok so if i seem to be over stretching then a shorter stem may be required?

You are unlikely to be "over stretching" at 6'3" on a 56cm frame - it is more likely that you might need a longer stem!

if you are 6 3 and riding a 56 trek there is no way in hell it could too long. thats a tiny bike for someone your height. id havr thought a 60cm eould be about right. im 5 9 and trek 56cm fits me!

What the lads are trying to say is that if you look like Jens here:

Then without being able to get a larger frame (maybe a 60cm at your height, not sure on Trek sizing) then you need to push the handlebars further forward by getting a longer stem.

Just to say i'm 5"9 and riding a 56 trek. I got myself measured first and the trek was the closest to my ideal position. My buddie is 6 foot and on a 58 trek
