    Hi people

i own a Trek 1.5 and am thinking of upgrading the wheels. With Christmas coming up i've giving myself a €300 gift to get wheels. Can anyone recommend a pair.
Is €300 enough to give me a decent upgrade?

    cheers

    The usual factory suspects are:

    Mavic Aksium, anywhere from 100-200
    Mavic Ksyrium something-or-other (Equipe?), 300ish
    Shimano RS-80, 400-ish.

Or handbuilts from the likes of wheelsmith.co.uk, Parker International, or your local bike shop.

The German online retailers (Jedi Sports, Rose, bike components, bike24) often have the best prices for factory wheels.

I'm giving myself the same gift and same budget. I found Fulcrum Quattros on Bike24 for €296 delivered to Ireland. They're over €350 on CRC and wiggle. They weigh in at 1730g which isn't super light weight but with the 35mm section they look excellent, are more aero than shallow section wheels and they're getting very good reviews. For the price you wont get anything noticeably lighter.

i got a bit of extra money so i went down the road at looking at maybe changing bikes. i started another trend about it called wheel v frame.

i got some great advice and read up a load of international forums and decided to go with a wheel upgrade still and went for Mavic Ksyrium Elites. From what i read though the Ksyrium Equipe are a great wheel too.

from what i read basically, its the wheels that are the major change in a bike and the most value when it comes upgrades. No point have an expensive frame with flat wheels was the way one person put it

i put the order in yesterday so will post when i go for a spin and see how things go

Good call. I made pretty much exactly the same choice a couple of years ago with a Trek 1500 going from the (pretty decent) Bontragers to Elites. 2-3 years on and 1000s of kms and they still feel stiff and true.
