Reverse light options on B6 Passat

    Morning all,

More something that is a annoyance than a problem.... With the darker evenings (and mornings!) now upon us, once again the problem of inadequate rear light when putting my B6 Passat into reverse rears its head.

As anyone who has one will know, unlike the previous B5/5.5 versions, VW in their wisdom decided to remove the dual reverse light arrangement of that car in favour of a single light, with the other side being your rear fog light.

Problem I've found though is that as a result of this, the light output is extremely poor so if you're unfamiliar with where you're parking and it's dark, you're basically doing it blind. Not an issue if you're backing up against a kerb or a hedge.. might be if there's another car there though and you don't have parking sensors!

I've seen options like buying a LHD rear light cluster and fitting that so that you get a reverse light on both sides of the car.. but then you lose the rear fog light.

Anyone come up with a better solution.. would a better bulb/LED help or would that then be blinding anyone behind you say in a car park?

Let's be honest here, you don't need your rear fog light!

Buy a rear cluster and see if it's better, or else reverse with your fog on

    NCT fail without one, no?
I don't see any mention of NCT in the OP!

He could just swap it out

An additional 7 inspection items were added to the NCT in April 2010, these included: Clarity of windscreen and front side windows, Vehicle exhaust noise, Rear fog lamp, Reverse lamp, Rear registration plate lamp, Tyres and Malfunction indicators for Airbags, ESC and ABS. Tap the brakes when reversing. They should throw out plenty of light.

Didn't their reverse light hang from the rear bumper anyway and just the one?
