"I am not drinking any fcuking merlowww!!" :D

On Sky Atlantic (+1) now. What a film!

Surely one of the greatest films of the last 25 years. The writing, the metaphors, the relationships, the wine!! Absolutely first class.

Doesn't matter how many times I watch it, I never get tired of it.

I have still yet to see this. Always forget about it until someone brings it up

I love it, some really funny parts and great scenery. Haden Church is hilarious and Giamatti is perfect as the jilted husband who can’t let go, I’m well over my ex but I could really relate to him in this (I never “drank & dialled” though)
Not much of a grape sucker but I do love getting tanked on wine while watching this every year or so with the missus(Doesn’t have to be Pinot either, sorry Miles :))

Virginia Madsen's character is just lovely.

    Love the very last scene.

one of my favourite films, always makes me laugh.

    "whats your novel called?"
    "The Day Before Yesterday"
    "...you mean today?"
    "ehh...yeah"

A film that justifies repeated viewings, great characters and dialogue and nice to see a romantic comedy that isn't cringeworthy and that doesn't feature Kate Hudson.

Absolutely love the film - one of my very favourites. Apparently Merlot sales took a huge drop after the film.

But the number of people drinking from wine spit buckets soared ;-)

    Absolutely love this film!

Miles Raymond: Okay, so what's the plan?
Jack: Uh... the plan is... you go.
    Miles Raymond: ME?
Jack: 'Cause of my ankle. Still hurts. Just go explain the situation, Miles.
    Miles Raymond: [laughs uproariously]
Miles Raymond: Explain the situation? Yes. 'Excuse me, sir, my friend was the one balling your wife couple of hours ago. Really sorry. He seems to have left his wallet behind. I was wondering if I come in, just poke around, I don't know'
Jack: Yeah, yeah, just like that. That's good.

My second favourite Alexander Payne film after About Schmidt. Wonderful little gem of a film.

I believe Payne is shooting his next film Nebraska (another road movie) at the moment.

While I'm quite fond of all Payne's films, I do sort of miss his sharp, pitch black satires at the same time. I do love Sideways and The Descendants (I haven't seen About Schmidt since it was released, so can't really comment on that!) but there's something about Citizen Ruth and Election that really appeals to me. They're two of the most scathing and brave comedies I've ever seen from Hollywood.

That said, he's very gifted at crafting multi-layered, flawed protagonists. From Laura Dern in CR to Giamatti in Sideways, it's always fascinating to see where he takes his characters. Sideways is gifted with a very strong ensemble too.

Scene where they try to do a better job at bashing the car the second time against the tree only to watch it glide past the tree in to a fence and down a dyke is just beautiful visual comedy at its best.

Great movie. I must have seen this 4 or 5 times by now.

I love the scene where they are running down the hill as miles necks a bottle of wine :D

Saw this i n the cinema a few of times, great film. Even the Thomas Hayden Church character been close to Thomas Hayden church's own career and Paul giammatti who I recognise from countless minor roles in other films but never knew the name of 'til the 'Sideways' film.

The 'I'm (we're) not drinking effing Merlot' is one of my favourite lines in the film, 'cos Merlot is a favourite grape of mine (esp.with a heavy meat based meal, like steak), but I understand why somebody may consider it mass produced.
I did read in Guardian/Observer newspaper Merlot sales dropped and enquiries sales of Pinot '????' increased. (I've also read that a grape-growing hillside will receive a Vinters award and the following seasons, the other sides of the hill, the rest of the valley and villages and neighbouring valleys will be calling their brands after the award-winniing hillside). So I follow the grape's name rather than a Nationality.

Liked the road movie, length of California feel.

First time I seen Sandra Oh in a film.

Didn't realise director was involved with About Schmith and The Descendants.

what i like about the film is that i can totally relate to both the main characters, depending on which mood i'm in. I do actually detest Pinot Noir, i think it's a nothing wine (much to my manager's horror!) even if Giamatti's character makes a decent pitch for it.
