Lost Library Books

Right lads I think I've lost a couple of library books - my bag has gone missing (chance I may be able to get it back, someone took it by mistake I think)

They are both rather old, obscure history books, long out of print I'd imagine(next to no students would use them, only took them out myself because I'm a history buff) I may have to replace everything that was in the bag, some expensive stuff there - books I had bought as well as a kindle.

Anyway it looks like replacing the two books will be near impossible (only had a brief look admittedly) so I'm worried as to how much I'll have to pay the library for the two books. I'm flat broke as it is.

Does the library tend to charge large amounts for lost books?

Your two options are to tell them now or get fined for months and then tell them.

Expect you will have to replace them. Log onto library.dcu.ie
You should be able to get the ISBN and full title of the books from there. Then google. I assume they were not in the short-term lending from what you have said. 50c an hour can get expensive quick on an overdue book.

No I still have time left plus a couple of renewals so I have a while yet.

I tried that, it doesnt have an ISBN as the book is quite old. I MIGHT be able to get paperback replacements, not the same edition though, reckon that would do?

The library is really the place to ask this. It won't be the first time its happened. I'd imagine there's a proceedure in place.

I lost a book over the summer. I'm allowed to keep renewing it and have 6 months to pay them for it or replace it and I won't have to pay the fines. They gave me a list of sites to look for it cheaper/second hand. Just ask them, they're really helpful.

I lost an engineering book before (also an old hardback edition) and just went in and told them, had to pay 25 euro or so. They give you a receipt though so if you find your bag and return the books you'll get a full refund.
