Cannot select higher resolution

I was messing about setting up a dual monitor display for my new PC, and it all worked fine, so I wanted to go back to my original display, but I've messed it up somehow.

Originally, I had a PC connected to monitor 1 via VGA and a resolution of (I think) 1680x1050. I plugged out the VGA and plugged in a HDMI to PC 2 and tested my dual display, and that was fine. But when I plugged out the HDMI and plugged back in the VGA cable, I can't get above 1360x768 in either Win Vista Display Settings or NVidia Control Panel. The default res for the monitor is 1680x1050, so it looks pretty bad, too, all anti-aliased and stuff.

Any ideas how to revert to how I had it?

Ok, never mind. Don't know how but on like the 15th go into NVidia control panel, the required resolution just magically appeared as an option again. Very peculiar.
