Good first rounds today by Rory and by Michael Hoey.

Just out of interest, does anyone know how Paul McGinley ended up playing in this tournament? Don't get me wrong - I'm delighted he's there. He's been a great ambassador for Ireland, I'm a huge fan and I really really hope he's the next European Ryder Cup captain.

But I didn't think he would get an invite to play in this tournament. Was it sponsor's invites (in which case, if it was down to me, he'd play every week) or were some other criteria applied?

Delighted to see that. A somewhat eclectic group.

Good round by Lowry this morning (64). Good comeback after he had an 8 early in round 1.

Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrgh, hate the use of that.

Robert Lee has alot to answer for introducing that to our vocab.

Very impresses with Hanson - nervy on last.

But up to then was very cool. Was actually up for him, I think if Rory want to go around in 2nd gear for some of the 4 days, don't want to see him win. He still ends up with 2nd but (lol),

I don't think McIlroy was playing in 2nd gear, I've noticed that this year his driving and putting have improved, but the middle bit isn't as good as it was.

He's leaving himself with a lot of long putts, which with his improved putting he's getting a good percentage of, but he's not giving himself as many realistic birdie chances as he did when he won the US Open imo.
