I spotted this in the local paper:
    thegreatrailwayrun

That's a nice run, would be a nice step back to LSR for anyone after DCM or a nice wind down for anyone doing the Eddie Murphy Memorial the following weekend.
Or a nice 25km for the hell of it.

Course should be nice, the section out along the harbour is nice.

A bit pricey but the lyons clubs is a good cause.

    Bertie

45 is a lot but I must say it's a great route and why more races are not held on this route is strange

I run this route for my LSR's and it is a nice run. For €45 I would want to be taking this race fairly seriously and not just winding down so it depends on how the body is feeling after Dublin. I presume the cost is due to the different starting and finishing locations and the need for transport.

How about they have a race in aid of runners who can't afford the really high race fees ? I don't know how big the ad was but I hope some of that 45 euro fee ain't paying for it. Who looks for races to do in the paper ?

    Or....
    Maybe separate "Race" from "Run".
There was a picture of a few of the Carrigaline club members next to that old train from the train station.
That was the only picture / poster I saw promoting the event, so at a guess the publicity was free / low cost as it was an evening echo piece.
As I said 45 is a bit steep, not sure how much will end up with the charity.
I usually have a 10/10 rule for club/charity events so by my logic the entry should be 25.
I agree with others that this route is nice, from Rafeen it doesn't follow the old train route, so I would guess it's to bump up the distance a bit.
There's details on the website for those of you so inclined.
I also thought the first mention (I saw) was a promo piece in the paper.

    Contemplating this.
But have to agree that the cost is prohibitive.
Flyers were being distributed after the Cork to Cobh race.

Assuming I feel reasonably ok after DCM, that's my current plan. Admittedly it's fairly pricey but think it's just the excuse I need to get back to a bit of running again & it's a nice route for sure.

As well the Run for Mark in the Dark is on the following Wed in the city centre so that's another one that's on the cards.

Opus you must be recession proof - 2 of the more pricey races right there.

Yup I've signed myself up to give it a go. It's a nice route, bit hilly at the very end however.

Thought the run went pretty well on Sunday, the earlier start at 9.30 meant it didn't take up the whole day & also meant that at least it was dry kicking off! Bit of a drop in numbers in the 25k, think it was ~120 last year but only 87 this year.

Showers at the end were welcome to warm up, a good spread of food and handy buses back to town so I was happy enough with the event.

Enjoyed it as well. Lovely course, except for the bit around Raffeen where traffic became a bit of an issue. Pity about the heavy rain from about 10.30am, meant there was hardly anyone out and about watching it on the course or at the finish. Would definitely do it again.
