i recently had to get the Gear bearings and a Clutch put in my Car , everything was fine for about two weeks it was like a glove , but now im having problems in the morning when the car is cold and when i put into 1st gear some times it sticks and i have to force it out , also when i go to 3rd sometimes it doesnt go in too easy , feels like a lot of free play any advice please

Also had a problem with the raidator its only a year old not sure if i might have hit it from underneath on a steep path , but i put in a bottle Nova Stop and i thought i had stopped the Leak but seems to be still coming out slowly somewhere , should i have put in more

    for the clutch
    • check for leaks
    • check cylinders for ware
    • check fluid is up to the job
    • if not renew (clean system)
    • bleed the system

    for the rad
    • replace it

just wondering does the gear box have to come out again ?

well if its a prob with the box then maybe yes

but work on the small basics first is my advice

rule out the cheap the deal with the expensive later

Nova stop wont stop a leak in the the body of the radiator, only in the matrix.

Use epoxy to plug a hole in the body of the radiator.

I have an Avensis VVti with exactly the same problem.I changed the gearbox three years ago and I have had problems with car sticking in first when cold. I know at this stage from the feel of the clutch whether when its going to stick.I talked to a Toyota mechanic about the problem and he said to spray WD40 in around the release bearing.Sometimes this makes a difference but not always. It doesnt always happen when its cold, only every now and then.

wwhhhhaaa wd40 near the clutch plate ... is that not a repice for slippage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭MAYOMICK

Not at all .It would burn off in a few minutes

spray it on the poilt shaft or bearing

Try lubricating the gearbox linkages at the top of the gearbox with a good dose of WD40...

Had the car over with a Gear Box Technician and of course the car worked oerfect etc aghhhhhhhhhhh

Anyway he came to the conclusion that its my Fly Wheel and it needs to be skimmed and this i s whats causing the gear to stay in First gear some times

He also showed me when the car is in Neutral and then you out it into reverse straight away it gives a little jump or crunch as if its not syncrhonising, and early Toyotas were badly designed in reverse a problem with the older Avensis but also an indication of the Fly Wheel

Is that a big job ???

Its a big enough job,the gearbox would have to come out.I already posted that my car has this problem for the last three or four years since changing a gear box.Ive noticed in mine that when it sticks in gear if you tip the accelerator it will solve the problem.Im talking about tipping it the way you would if you were trying to drive a car with the clutch gone.Try it anyway.

Going by the symptoms, I would be more inclined to suspect that the clutch disc is sticking somewhat on the gearbox input shaft, such that it is not coming back that fraction from the flywheel.

I suspect that if it was the flywheel, the problem would be more consistent.

Yes you will see from my previous post where I was advised by a Toyota Mechanic to spray WD40 in towards the release bearing shaft. However you can see nothing so you havnt a clue where the oil is going.
