Christmas is a bit away yet but my brother is notoriously hard to shop for.

He likes his beer and drink in general.

Has anyone tried TNP? It's basically very very strong beer for those that haven't heard of it and think I'm just saying random words and pretending they're alcohol.

He lives in London so I'd presumably get a bottle of it delivered to him. If not that would someone recommend something else on the novelty alcohol front?

I thought it was horrible myself. If he likes craft beer, you could order him loads of cool beers from the brewdog website, or beermerchants(shipping wont be as bad since he lives in London). Wont be as novel as TNP of course. Brewdog's Sink the Bismarck is a higher ABV if you really want to make it more interesting !

Does your brother get home much?

If not, send him over some Irish craft beers. :)

The new limited-edition barrel-aged stout from Franciscan Well will be out soon, and White Gypsy's four new bottled beers are just beginning to appear in off licences. All lovely gift-sized (ie big) bottles, and not available in England.

    TNP is bloody disgusting.

He's probably going to be flying Ryanair at Christmas with only hand-luggage so it'll be difficult to give him anything bulky to bring home with him. (Edit: And you can't bring liquids).

That's why I was favouring Brewdog and being able to deliver to his flat.

For the novelty factor, why not? I haven't had it but if it's anyway similar to their Tokyo stout it'd be very drinkable.

People both love to love and love to hate this beer.
Thing is, you shouldn't really think of it as beer but rather as just another alcoholic drink like port, sherry, whiskey or some sort of liqueur. Strengthwise, it is like a weak whiskey.
I quite liked it - not terribly like Tokyo* (which I like) - thought it was like a light whiskey with marmite in it! I like marmite. I much preferred it to Sam Adams Triplebock.
However, I liked Sink The Bismarck much more - thought it was far more complex and interesting and, well, nicer.

Why not indeed for the novelty factor - he might even like it!

    Great feedback all.

I didn't really know whether it was just made really strong for the sake of it and tasted like cat piss.

Whether it is or isn't nice seems to be as much about taste from what I can gather rather than being a poor quality drink that's a high % to get you pissed quicker.
