If you've got an old tv that's connected to a roof aerial and freeview satellite, what exactly do I need a combi box or a soarview box set?

A combi box - connect one side to the aerial for saorview - the other to the satellite to get FTA

EDIT: in saying that my Dad has a Walker saorview box and he can get some of the UK channels without the need for dish (based in the midlands).

Probably the satellite connection will give you more UK channels.

Where are you located and where do you get your aerial signal from?

If you don't mind an extra receiver & remote, you only need a Saorview box to get the Irish channels back, assuming you have the right aerial.

As others have mentioned, terrestrial UK reception is also available in some areas.

Swords and the signal comes from Kippure. I connected a new TV to the aerial and saorview came in fine (whole other story) - so I don't think it's an issue with the aerial or the signal. But we couldn't get saorview on the old tv when we connected it to the aerial using the saorview box last night. Where it says channel 54 on check coverage, does that mean that you have to go to channel 54 on the old set to tune in saorview?

Just because the coverage checker says you receive from Kippure, doesn't necessarily make it so. Do you know which direction the aerial points It's possible that it's actually pointing north at Clermont Carn & that means you would also have a chance of getting UK Freeview channels from the Kilkeel transmitter.

How did you connect the Saorview box to the old tv?
