Does a new Act of the Oireachtas rescind all previous Acts?.e.g Intoxicating Liquor Act 2008 is the definitive Act and all previous Acts and articles therein (1927...'60 '62 1988 2000..) are null and void.

It will be set out in the text of the Act what repeals if any of existing legislation are being made. Some consolidating Acts repeal a lot of previous legislation, same acts make minor changes and some make no changes at all.

If you're a new law student use westlaw.ie not the statute book when looking at legislation.

Very much appreciated Procrastastudy. I completed a Legal Studies course last year and really enjoyed it and going to the local district court and viewing the proceedings. I would be of the opinion that Legal Studies should be included in the school curriculum. "When I were a lad" we had Civics as a subject. But never saw the benefit of it at that time...too young.
    Regards
