Best supermarket coffee?

    a) What's the best supermarket coffee, for taste and value - not espresso, just normal coffee? Have found nice coffee in Aldi recently, but it's dearish.

    b) What about roasted coffee beans? (They seem difficult to find, anyway.)

You'd be unlikely to find cheaper, better value supermarket brands than Aldi, Lidl, or Tesco. If there is cheaper but still decent alternatives I'd be interested!

It'll seem like I'm shilling for Lavazza Rossa today but yeah for me that's the best value/taste bean I can find in my local supermarkets (Tesco).

Getting through a pack of Bewleys at the moment and its nice and smooth but still rich with flavour . I'd get it again. I do like Cafe Direct but it's not as common as it used to be

I like the Douwe Egberts, but the stuff we get here tastes completely different to the home version they have in the Netherlands and of course they have a wider range of coffees that they don't seem to export :(

I think this may be because Ireland is treated as a sub-region of Britain by many not-too-bright food and drinks companies, who don't realise that we have quite different tastes - less of a sweet tooth, more liking for subtle and complex tastes.

Oh absolutely, especially with the prevalence of tea :)

I also find myself in your situation, after scanning the shelves in my local Tesco i found myself leaving emty handed. MY brother though got me some lavaza but not finding it to nice, not sure tho if its the way im making it? Ans as the machine is new(only receiving it for xmas) im hoping this is the case, and with some trial and error i mite master the art of barrista style coffee making lol. On the other hand if i come across something different/better ill be sure to let you no

To a great extent, it's not a question of good or bad: it's a question of what you like or don't like.

I find a Union Handroasted coffee in Dunne's stores that pleases me.

    Don't waste your time.

Go and treat yourselves to a French press and a decent burr grinder. Then purchase some freshly roasted beans from one of the frequently mentioned roasteries on the forum and then never look back. Ever.

Java Republic Munkey Espresso beans are my daily. Available in Dunnes. Just stocked up as it was/is on offer. Pretty decent coffee.

There a few places in Ireland that specialise in beans.

If you're in Cork try Mahers just next to the GPO on Oliver Plunket Street. They've a very good range of beans.
