Ive been driving Jap cars for over twenty years and I am changing cars soon, I am considering trying a BMW or maybe a Volvo but Im scared, I had a new Transit in 04 that was in the garage 6 times in the first 30k miles, I had a new Octavia 1.9 DSG in 2007 that I kept for 15 months, it burnt a lot of oil and had a recall for replacement rear light bulb holders, apart from that I did like that car.
I like performance cars and in the passed I have owned Subaru Impreza's , Lancer evolution, Subaru Legacy GTB, Celica GT4, Mazda RX7's , along with other nice Jap cars but I cant afford anything like that now.
The problem is that after the recession kicked the ****e out of me I cant afford much, Im now driving a 1999 Toyota Corrola 1.3 manual, its very economical but I dont like it, its too small and boring.
I dont have much money so would be looking at 2001/02 cars, this would be ideal for me http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3950440 if it had an NCT and the AWD would be great.
I have been very luck with Jap cars, they have never really given me much trouble and I never worry about if a car will let me down.
    Would a BMW satisfy me ? - http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3787647
    Are Volvo's any good ?
I want an automatic from 1.6 to 2L with NCT and not massive miles.
    Suggestions welcome.

surely the older model octivia/passat if you can find one not modded or taxi'd.. but well.. yo had some greif in the past, I'd love to get an e39 5 serise ( 520d ) with an autobox... it would be slow and boring to drive but there could be some econemy to be had, basic comfort & with FSH could go for a while but don't expect absolute reliablity out of a 10+ year old car...
