    Hi All,

Im sure this has been done plenty of times before. if so sorry for repeating the question.

I have a trek 1 series for the past 3 years. did circa 10,000km during this time, most of it this year. Mostly popular sportifis i.e. wicklow 200/rok etc.

Its a great bike but im looking for an upgrade and i reckon i can get better bargins now rather than march next.

    Criteria below must include:

A bike that will last at least 5/6 years
Value for money (i.e. not paying for just a name)
    Full carbon
    Good for climbing
May be used as a temp triathalon bike if necessary

I have a few bikes in mind such as Planet x RT/Cannondale super 6/focus izalco pro/Storck Scenario.
Personally im tilting towards storck as i like the frame. Planet x seem to offer the best value though. (Id love a Trek madone but no rich relatives have died recently.)

    Any comments welcome....

note all prices went up on bikes this year shimano groupset prices jumped for this year.

I bought a sensa bike, dutch brand happy enough and good end of price. People buy canyon but to be honest I like to deal with a shop with a big purchase like that id advise to at least sit on a canyon for sizing.

just upgraded to a Look 566 which I'd reccommend if your into hard training, hills and generally sportif style cycling and not necessarily into the racing but not ruling it out either... your lower price would get you the frame and anything more then that would depend on your choice of groupset and wheels

Have a look at roseversand. They have some very well speced bikes and it would seem they are good value. You can also customise the bike before buying. For example, those Xeon CRS models around the 2k marker come with Ksyrium elites on them, add a few bob and you have Cosmic Carbones (if you're into bike bling) or something in the weight weenie category, add some carbon bars and saddle and you'll have a nice climbing machine.

Been drooling over some of those bikes for a while now. Will hopefully get one before the racing season starts.

Rose and Canyon for Internet sales or Cube, Cannondale and Giant are all on my short list at the moment with a similar budget to yours.

I really like the Storcks. Have an aero as my TT/Tri bike and looking at the Scenaro or Absolutist frames as a base for a new road bike.

I got a Planet X Rt 57 , very very happy with it, nothing like trying the Actual bike for sizing before you part with big money. I'd prefer to travel to athlone then do my head in on measurements and internet charts, and hope that it arrives as described.

I keep on saying it but px bikes seem to offer great value , they spend nothing on marketing passing on the savings in better product and components € for € .

I did the same thing. It was a half build in he LBS and I got to finish it the way I wanted; black & red 566 frame, SRAM RED derailers and shifters and Mavic Ksyrium wheels for around €2900. If I went ultegra or force it would've been in your budget. Only got it last week but went for a couple of spins and it is SWEEEEEET!

Thanks for the advice. I dont have the knowledge of the engineering to do any justice of buying a bike on the net so it would have to be a shop. Some really good ideas. That Fuji sst is a really aggressive looking bike!

If you are reluctant to go down the internet route then it is highly unlikely that you will get better value in Ireland than with Planet X in Athlone as mentioned by Bigus. Their prices are usually a little higher than those on the Planet X UK site but they will quite often match them. So you might take a look at the Uk site which I've linked, pick out your bike and then get on to the guys from Planet X Ireland.
