On a more serious note, when i was looking this was 100 quid short of 9 grand, looks like a really nice example for the money.(Owner said he couldn't budge on price and now afew months later he drops over 1500 euros :p way to miss a sale and do me a favour tbh)

That red one is a lovely looking car, seems almost too cheap really if you ask me....

He had it up for 8900 in around may Geo and i rang him (along with afew others) to arrange to view the following month. Was hoping to get it for a little under 8 but the guy made a point of going on for 5 minutes n the phone about how "I can't drop the price again i have dropped it 3 times already from 10k+" i said fair enough i will head down to waterford and have a look and we will see as it's the best i have come across" and he made it apparent price wouldn't drop so i left it there.

Looks really nice all the same.

Yes that seems too good to be true.... If it's genuine though there's a cheap gti with that spec

What had you thinking that George?

And regards the second one, what'd be ballpark for the job he's describing? Bearings in a DSG wouldn't be cheap I'd imagine.

He probably fobbed off 1 too many genuine buyers over the summer and is now desperate to sell, still nothing a trip down the road a couple of online checks and a once over with a mechanic with vag.com can't verify

With that mileage and spec it should have sold long ago at that price IMO. Maybe the guy is just a bad salesman or maybe there is some issue with the car that isn't apparent from the pictures or description.

06 car, MKVII Golf on the way and car being 7 years old on the horizon, methinks he has thrown his rose tinted spectacles to the wind and is in panic sell mode :p

That's what people always like to believe when they spot a "bargain" but very often it turns out to be anything but.

Tbh with a competent mechanic and a good backround check or 3 and your homework done you should be as safe as a person can be in a private sale, at the end of the day it's a 7 year old hatchback, if an exceptional one
