I dont consider myself to now be a catholic or indeed a christian but I know religion can mean a lot to many people.
The pain some people feel at exclusion or feeling they need to hide who they are within, or because of, their church, can be very deep.
Because of this and in case it could give comfort or food for thought, or even if it just raised a discussion on religion or spirituality I wanted to post this video.
Its a video of a homily recently given in Dundalk by a lesbian and gay man at a Novena given by the Redemptorists.
You can skip to about 5.20 mins if you like.
If it dosent interest you in any way Id suggest not watching it ;) and if it does here you are.
Its a bit of a surprise to me actually that gays were invited into the church to talk because the Vatican has said some pretty strong stuff about not encouraging homosexuality and always making sure to be kind whilst remembering homosexuality is an intrinsic disorder.
The Redemtorists therefore are being quite couragous as are the gay couple getting up and speaking at mass about being gay. The theme of the homily is Courage which is quite appropriate.
