I once had the displeasure of being stuck on an AA domestic flight, all I can say is it was cattle herding of the highest order and never would I fly them transatlantic.

Strange too that they are launching new routes given their gloomy outlook and possible merger looming with US. Also, I don't think there is the need for another DUB-JFK flight, DL have one and EI have a couple so the route is well covered and fairly competitive usually.

Personally I dont see the point of this. Next summer EI will operate 2 A330 flights per day, DL will have a 767 on the route, and UA operate the 757 to EWR which is essentially New York. Now on top of that, AA are jumping on the band wagon. Thats a lot of seats to fill next summer!!

Still no direct west coast flight, but great we get another east coast flight to add to the already saturated market!

Not to mention an 0900 departure from DUB pretty much rules out any connecting pax from the UK or EU.

    Weird.

Just a thought, but maybe it's not aimed at the New York market. Yes, there maybe seats sold to people who want to go into New York City, but I would have said that its from adding another connection from Ireland to a major American Airlines hub for onward connections. Having the stopover city as New York would be a nice way to sell extra seats, but may not be the main reason.

For example, it you wanted to fly to say Florida, Washington, Boston or even eastern Canada, flying on American Airlines current route of Chicago and then back to any of these destinations would be a longer flight than going to JFK and onwards. The flight time of an early Dublin departure allows for good connections via JFK, and would make the times comparable to aer Lingus, united, delta etc...

However, must agree with Preset No.3 that a flight to the west coast would be beneficial to both Irish and foreign tourism, aswell as the business market.

Indeed, it's not about passengers connecting in DUB, but onward traffic from AA's JFK hub.

Given it's AA they'll be lucky to make it out of DUB by lunchtime!!

Its cheaper for the airlines to have their West Coast pax travel on East Coast flights and transfer on from there.

I assume that AA are looking to offer onward connections from JFK and perhaps tap into the USA-LHR-Ireland market.
Also using a B757 is lower risk than a B767. Easily 50% of a B757 could be onwards transfers.

I wonder why they never considered MIA (maybe they have no available planes - the 757 wouldn't make it). They have a huge hub there with lots of connections to the Caribbean, Central and South America. Plus they would have no competition. Plus they have the huge cruise market there.

Thought the 757 could make MIA...

Isn't that awful for you lot up there in Dublin, I am sure Cork would welcome that 757 with open arms if they decided to fly from there to US direct next year.

    i know....it wouldn't happen

When are delta moving to the 767 on DUB-JFK route

Delta use a 767 on DUB-JFK during summer season, 757 in winter.

on ATL, its 767 winter and A330 summer.
