Was in Currys in The Pavilions in Swords yesterday and picked up a very cheap Panasonic Blu-Ray player - model number DMP-BDT110. It was a display model, no packaging and also no remote. Anyway I paid €39.99 for it which is a fantastic price. might be worth keeping an eye out in other stores to see if there is any…

Brought it home and hooked it up and you do really need a remote. I was going to buy one but remembered I had a very old Panasonic dvd player lying around so tried that remote with it and it works perfectly.
