With a big Google Android event next Monday 29th October where they are expected to announce new tablets you might be better off waiting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,642 ✭✭✭dubrov

    Why wait?

Nexus 7" runs smoothly and has a great screen.

I can't see what a new tablet could offer.

They might have a slightly better screen and processor, both of which would make no difference to the user experience.

Maybe they are due a price drop with the new models soon but I have a feeling that this price already includes that.

The "deal" is gone now anyway
The HUKD community has flagged this deal as reeking of spam, therefore the deal has been incinerated.

Rumour has it the Nexus 7 will get upgraded to 32gb for the same price as the current 16gb and the 16gb will replace the 8gb again at the same price point.

Rumour has it that the 8gb model will be retired. The 16gb model's price will drop to the same as the 8gb, and a new 32gb model will come in at the current 16gb price point.

Additionally a new 10" samsung nexus tablet is expected with a mind blowing screen resolution.

The question was asked what an upgrade could bring to an already great tablet ... Apart from the above, many people would like to see the addition of an sd card slot and hdmi out. Although doubtful, it remains to be seen if anything is offered on this front.

Edit - draffodx you must have been reading my mind as I was typing ;)

Not in the new 32Gb Nexus 7, as its allegedly already been sold by mistake in some US stores (Staples). Its just an upgrade to 32Gb storage. A micro sd card slot would be a great addition.

The nexus 7 is looking like good value now compared to the ipad-mini. The 16Gb Nexus 7 will probably be about €200 (from next week) vs €340 for the equivalent 16Gb ipad-mini. Anyway this probably isn't the right thread to discuss the mini vs the nexus.

It's running the latest OS so some apps are not yet compatible and Flash support has been dropped but otherwise should be grand, €209 is a pretty good price for it but keep in mind if the rumours are true you can buy it for €199 in a couple of weeks.

Yeah I'm very tempted to get the Nexus 7 today at that price for 209 in HMV but really want to see the outcome of the Android event next week. Saying that, anything decided during that effect might not actually kick in in Ireland for some time?

Well it's definitely 179 stg in Dixons at Stansted airport. That is for the 16gb model. 209 euro is a v good price especially for Ireland , I think I'll hang on for the 32gb

I have a 16 gig en route as we speak.

I did beat myself up about the fact that I'll be losing out on the extra storage, but figure with the micro usb, I can have a fair few movies etc on a USB key and that should sort out that problem, no?

There is no place to put a sd card. You would have to use icloud or similar.
