    Hi All,

Ive decided to sell my Same Explorer 90 turbo 4wd tractor which is about 1987 and has 4800 hours... everything is working and its going great but paint is faded and tyres are 30% all round and cracked from sitting up for quite a while.
There is not many of these 90's about and just wondering whats mine roughly worth..

    Thanks

I suppose its worth whatever you can get for it :-)

if Engine, hydraulics, brakes etc. are ok and cab is lets say 'weatherproof', then I'd guess about €4000 ... if anything doesn't work then subtract the cost of fixing it from that price.

Check out Donedeal.ie for the likes of it ..then work the maths yourself. Maybe have a chat to a local dealer (pretend you want to trade in).

Not sure what the market in tractors is like theses days .. the big Auctions in Dublin had plenty of them over the last few years at nice money.. so the smart farmers are all sorted :-)

Around the 5k mark it would want to be good condition- the tyres are a drawback on the tractor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,436 ✭✭✭kincaid

well id hope to be getting near the 6k ono for it as its a great tractor( next best thing to a massey 390t lol )

Tinwork all good, engine, turbo etc perfect, just tyres perished from sitting up

How long has it been sitting up for? That would worry me if I was buying it. Engines don't like being sitting up as it causes internal seals to perish (just as your tyres did)

Didnt think there was any export on Same tractors not like there would be on the massey's and to be honest they dont give you the true value of what the tractors worth

still have not sold this tractor, what is it with this Same that making it so hard to sell, its a good original tractor with good gearbox and i believe it would be just as good as any massey 390t

Part of the problem is the deutz air cooled engine. Great engine when they are working well but when there is a problem with them its very difficult to get anyone to work on them because they are very hard to get right and time consuming to do as well.
Another thing against it is the tyres , Add another 2.5-3k for tyres and it starts to become expensive tractor.

People love the 390t cause they are a proven tractor, reliable , parts are easy to get , easy to work on. etc

So you think im asking too much for it then?
Get another 8-9 months out of the back tyres anyway
I can get 4 goodyear part worn tyres for €1400, thread is about 70%

Honestly you are probably asking what its worth but people are somewhat afraid if them.
If it had good tyres it would be easier to sell but adding another 1400 to the price wont help it.
you might get a better deal if you were to trade against something else or try for export.
Out of curiosity why are you selling it??

you dont rate the Same much then but i know what you mean.
im selling as dont really need it as have a jd 2130 that is able to do all the work.

Is your Same as good as this one? http://www.donedeal.ie/tractors-for-sale/same-90/5534729 The Explorers have a great reputation and hold their value

I havent much experience of Same s but have some of the deutz engines.
Any where there is a Same/Deutz/Lambo/Hurliman dealer they are popular.
I would keep putting it up on donedeal. Normally ads older than 5/6 days have gone stale , no one looks at them. Put no price down and see if it makes a difference.

Why dont you go full circle and sell the JD 2130 and keep the Same. Its an aweful shame to leave a tractor sitting there and doing nothing with it.

Also i would advise you to declare it off the road as you could be caught for back tax if you do put it back on the road

    Ok, here's my offer €3k :)

If I was buying it the tyres would be my main sticking point , I just wouldnt buy a tractor that was going to need 4 new tyres so soon unless it was really reflected in the price .
I think if you can get 70 % tyres for 1400 euros put them on and it would sell alot quicker

Slightly off topic. I have a similar problem with a tractor I am thinking of selling. Back tyres need replacing but new Goodyears are around €800 each. I have a 03 TS100 with about 7500hours and T130 loader. Anybody have an idea of what it would be worth these days and whether I should invest in tyres?
    Thanks
