I have a 01 A6 and lately a strange thing has been happening with the central locking. As I'm driving along, the locks on all 4 doors open all of a sudden (the buttons pop up but the doors dont acutall swing open fortunately.. :D ), the buttons pop up and the internal lights come on as if I've pressed the remote central locking key, which I know I haven't

The button to activate the central locking inside doesnt work after this.
If I switch off the ignition and then turn it back on again, it all works fine.

Its probably some sort of sensor or loose connection but if anyone has any ideas or experienced this before, can you give me some indication of where to start looking?

    Thanks,
    Tox

You need to get it scanned with VCDS of VAG-COM to see if there are any error codes. It sounds like a wiring problem or a problem with the Central Convenience Unit which controls many things including the central locking.

I have a locking problem with my Allroad at the minute. The drivers door won't lock or unlock with the key fob. All the other doors are fine. It will lock manually with the key. The problem is that if the driver's door doesn't lock, the alarm doesn't activate. I didn't scan it yet, but from reading it's more likely a wiring problem. It won't be easy to find, but the wiring between the car body and the door (in the rubber sleeve) is a good place to start.

    Cheers for the info.

I'll get cracking on it and let you know how I get on.

A faulty ignition switch can cause these symptoms. The faulty switch sends a spurious signal which makes the CCM think you have removed the ignition key so it unlocks all the doors and turns on the interior lights. A diagnostic scan should show this up easily enough.
