Hey all, im just asking can i get help with getting me my first car,
im not great at spotting them via Donedeal etc, so i be great-full for help,
unfortunately i can only spend 500 euro though, i know that isn't much, but its all i got,
The car MUST also be sold in Cork i really don't mind what you guys share, just don't ever post a fiat punto, i hate them, and don't post Civics either, im not a fan,
i know a lot will end up posting some Ford fiestas, and that's ok, i have been watching the "Bangernomics " thread for awhile now, but its time to finally find a car i can use, any help be appreciated.

    Must be CORK
    Budget 500€
    NO Punto/Civics

    thanks guys!

You know you can filter donedeal by price and type in the words nct and cork into the search?

I wouldn't be too concerned with the type of car as such, you're just going to have to take every one as it comes. Dismissing the likes of puntos is a mistake. People are afraid of them so they are very cheap, and provided they check out when you take a look would be ideal.

Everyone wants small cars that cost nothing these days, I would wager that almost everything in the 500 bracket is going to be shagged.

    @colm
Yes but im mostly out and a bout, i might miss a good deal if one pops up, you see im stuck doing a damn course, and the phone app keeps crashing, its just as easy to come onto the forums with my phone and see if anyone can spot a deal for me, my insurance starts in 2 weeks and i still haven't got a car,i get an email every time someone responds, and i can ring people up while im out and go see it,

@Alan, That is true, i have had a punto in the family and i just cant look at them anymore, i know its an ideal first car but i just cant drive one,i have seen great bargains around but at the time i didn't have the money, its more or less just me been patient

I know its not the question you are asking but Id save for a bit more, for your first car 500e will probably only up in bottomless pockets having to spend on work done on it all the time

That's a fair response, thanks :), if i can wait i will try, but if someone finds a bargain i will have to go for it, another thing is i know 3 mechanics, so if i come across a small problem i can get them to have a look at it, i will also be bringing one of them with me when i go and have a look at the car just in-case the seller isn't telling me something, i will get them to have a look

    Here, click on this:

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/find/cars/for-sale/Cork/?filter%28max_mileage%29=Max+KM&filter%28max_price%29=500&filter%28max_year%29=Max+Year&filter%28min_mileage%29=Min+KM&filter%28min_price%29=Min+Price&filter%28min_year%29=Min+Year

Then find a car you like.

Don't know why you're against Civics since your budget won't get you jack in that department.

Also, you should really look in Munster/Ireland as a whole if you are really looking for something that could last. More cars means that there would be a better chance of getting a peach amongst a pile of lemons.

And a bit of advice from someone who has owned several cheap as chips cars; do yourself a favor and save more money before you get one. Find a car with a service history which is clean inside and out, with a years NCT. Hell, look at the bangernomics thread. You could have a nice car for a few 100 extra if you bother to go collect it. A bus ticket costs barely anything these days.

Also, if you can only afford 500 for a car, how you going to afford insurance?

My insurance is 926 euro, that's cheap for a 20 year old, if i have money problems family will help me out, i have 500 euro put away for a car,i will try save for a bit more,i just need help because i don't know a bargain if it was right in front of me,and why i don't want a Civic, simple, i don't want to be classified as a boy racer, they overcharge you on insurance if you drive them, i have a friend that has one that's driving a few years, still has no claims and his insurance is costing him 1400,i do like civics, i just don't want to start off in one, thanks for the response, i appreciate it :) i have 2 weeks to look, and i might have extra money by then

What car did you get the quote of 926 on? Not every car will be the same price to insure

Your insurance is 926 on what though? No matter what car you buy that will change, whether it be up or down.

You have 500 put away, but you'll have to tax it for a couple of hundred, 60~ to fill it with a tank of petrol, any jobs that need doing could add up to 1/200 without too much of a stretch. People know me and buying cars and I certainly didn't rush into buying mine, I might be a bit extreme though:D, but in all seriousness you should go into this with your eyes open and be prepared to walk away from whatever heaps you encounter.

My advice, save a bit more, don't discredit any cars at this stage, and make friends with a good insurance broker.

It was a Ford Fiesta 1.3L, got the quote about 2 months ago, we used my aunts car,i have 500 away, but i will be able to afford tax, that's not much of a hassle, what i will do is save up a few hundred more, i do know for the few extra euro i can get much better cars, but if i come across a bargain and it is in good condition i might go for it, im not the best with patience :P thanks for the all the response's guys, and if you do find a bargain please post it!
