Do I need to silicone seal this into place with some Tech 7??

The smaller sealing washer seems to be made out of the draught excluder foam type material.

Will that make a watertight seal on the inside of the basin??

    Thanks.:)

Tech 7 is overkill, just get a decent clear sanitary silicone.

Personally i never use the foam washer on top as i think its **** :D

I dont trust the rubber seal on the underside either, but i use it , and what i do when its all tightened up is put a neat lick of clear silicone around the underside of the basin where the waste meets the sink.

So ditch that smaller foam washer and use some clear silicone sealant..yes??

And put a lick of silicone on the underside of the basin aswell as an extra safe measure??

    Thanks.:)

    PS-Its an Ikea strainer unit

Ya thats pretty much it, where your ditching the foam washer put on plenty of silicone, it should squeeze out from all side when you sit it in position, and on the underside you dont need much silicone, just a neat bead where it meets the basin all round.

Have a roll of clean tissue on hand and make sure you clean up the silicone where it has squeezed out etc...... if you dont clean it , it will be a mess when it hardens and wont come off great.

Personally i use clear, i think it looks neater with chrome fittings.

    Thanks for that.:)

Can I also ask you about the best way to fix the sink onto the wooden cabinet unit?

Is it Tech 7 or just normal silicone sealent to fix the sink onto the wooden cabinet base?

And also with regards to attaching the sink to the wall.

Tech 7 or just normal white silicone on the back of the sink to fix it up to the tiled wall??

    Thanks again.:)

I wouldnt ditch the foam washer myself, it stops the metal coming in contact with the basin, it also helps create a space for the clear sanitary sealant to go into, otherwise it could be all squeezed out.
Thats my opinion, I'd also mask around the parts where the sealant will be.
I'd smooth some sanitary sealant over the bottom rubber washer too for good measure.
Tec 7 would be a bit much for the drain hole to me.

As for the sink unit, I'd presume there would be some screws holding the unit and basin onto the wall? if so tec 7 may help hold it in place, but I would only use a little bit, sealant may be better suited, but it wont grip.

Anywhere sealant or adhesive might come out, I mask off, smooth and remove tape before it dries.

I've seen (some form of) adhesive used on kitchen cabinets, nearly damaged the stuff trying to remove cabinet/door, so if using Tec 7, Id make sure its in place before it sets, Maybe that wouldn't happen on tiled surfaces though?

So keep the small foam washer in place, put some silicone sealant on the sink aswell, and then press the washer and strainer down onto the sealant?????

I broke the old bath sink off the wall,as there was so much Tech 7 holding it onto the wall,it was not possible to get at it all, with a large saw blade.

I had to split the sink off the tiled wall.:(

Its up to yourself with the foam washer , i have installed proably 300+ of these at this stage and never use that foam washer , as long as you put on the correct amount of silicone it wont all be squeezed out.

Tech 7 is overkill again on the unit, it should be solid without it, but i would put a few dabs of silicone on to just keep its positon solid once installed.

    Thankyou.

So enough silicone that is squeezes out around the strainer, and then wipe away the excess silicone.

And a few blobs on the back of the sink,as its pressed up against the tiled wall.

    Sweet.:)

I would, thats my opinion, I dont think it would seal anything though, I'd just put some clear sanitary sealant on both sides and around it, I always mask up so when wiping away the sealant it doesnt get on everything.

Thats the reason why I wouldnt go mad on the tec 7, few blobs might be ok, just to help keep it in place, if too much is on, the blobs join together that flattens into one area and makes it difficult to remove.

Around the strainer, I'd mask up where the sanitary sealant would be used, apply enough, fit strainer and wipe away excess, then remove masking tape.
Im not sure if silicone would do that job against the back of the sink, tec 7 be ok, but only in only a few blobs, that'd be me

(thought you meant tec 7 on strainer connection)

I agree with everything you say there, I have just stuck the foam washer in, so long as enough sanitary sealant is on, it'll be fine.
I think tec 7 lathered all over the wall is overkill, a few blobs be ok,

I have not done close to 300, not even near, still no leaks all the same :)

Right, the Ikea strainer is a tad too big and the under basin plastic part is hitting of the inside of the cabinet when you try to mock it all up.

So down to Davies Bathroom Centre and 2 new chrome "pivot" strainers.

Fits perecetly, and the plug turns open and closed on its own axis,no pop up plug to worry about.
