Myself and antonyos from this site went ferretin the other day onto land that I am only person allowed hunt on and last year I discovered travellers ferretin on it and apparently have lamped the area aswell so two weeks ago after not touching this ground for a few months went on a walk and seen plenty of rabbits so I invited antonyos to try out his ferret on it and I braught fatso my ferret aswell
Seen one rabbit and nothin bolted in holes that I seen rabbits in
We also seen footprints and holes that were clearly dug up with a shovel and filled in again
Was fuming over it as its my best ferreting land
    Any ideas what to do
The landowner is aware of it now but I'm afraid it may be too late
    Anyone got similar problems?
What did u do about it?

Can't offer advice here, but a freind of mine has a small sweet little permission not too many miles from your home location with a nice mixed bag of game. Last few outings has highlighted a drop in animals been seen. Locals have said they seen lads in vans with lurchers turning up at night. Definitely impacting on wild life.

There has been a serious decline and when I go out I wouldn't take more than two rabbits but these lads are probably Dillon up the van with them

Why would you only take two rabbits?

I wouldn't take more than that
Two will feed the ferrets for a week or I'd keep myself one for the dinner
I used to stay all day and ferret and bring home loads years ago but ya start to realise it when population dies down

So it's just for sport that you go ferreting is it?

I do it for pest control so I take as many as possible but I use all of them for feeding the dogs and for baiting rat traps

Well I have done it for pest control and last year got serious amount of rabbit in two corn fields in Offaly but we had 7 ferrets workin that day well over 100 nets between 10 of us and long nets aswell and he offered us money aswell
Didn't take it tho only a laugh to us
But now I just do it for sport using the ferret and the Harris hawk never takin more than I need unless the ferret kills
