Will games for the Nintendo 3DS play on a Nintendo DS?
I have a Nintendo DS and do not want to upgrade to a 3DS as I do not use it that much and do not think it will be worth the cost of upgrading,
however there is a game after coming out for the 3DS but not the DS that I would really like to play so is it possible to play a 3DS game on the Nintendo DS?

    Thanks in advance!

No the 3DS games are only for 3DS, DS games will work on 3DS though.

No. The 3DS has higher spec hardware than the DS, so the DS doesn't have the hardware needed to play 3DS games. (but you can play DS games on a 3DS, they just won't be in 3D obviously.

oops RobbingBandit got in there before me :)

worth pointing out, you can't even fit a 3DS cart into a DS, that's why they have those little tabs in the top left corner sticking out.

Note : 3DS is region locked, DS isn't, so you can't play US / Jap DS games on a euro handset.

I thought it could still play any region's DS games, as long as there were no DSi features.

DS games are still region free on the 3DS.
You can play a jap ds game on a irish 3ds.

Deano : Yes you are correct. But since I only ever play the Pokemon games and I'm still bitter about being locked out of my Jap Black cart I often forget... My bad! DS good. DSi bad!

Think of it as trying to play a CD on your record player as you don't want to upgrade to a CD player. The DS and 3DS really are that different! :)

DSi XL = DSi, there's no difference other than size.
3DS XL = 3DS, again, only size different.

So a 3DS or 3DS XL will play all DS or DSi games.
A DS or DSi or DSi XL will NOT play any 3DS games.
