Infraction in Cycling Forum

I made this totally innocuous and on-topic post about PE teachers:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=81384865&postcount=44

...and received an on-thread warning from Beasty here:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=81384908&postcount=45

    I then posted this chart:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=81385375&postcount=47

    ..and got an infraction.

Now, whilst I concede that ignoring a mod warning in-thread is technically against the charter, I think that "don't be a dick" should also apply to moderators, and that issuing warnings and then infracting someone for pointing out (and supporting with research) the fact that PE teachers tend to be of below average intelligence falls well into the territory of "being a dick".

As far as I know PE teachers do not form any sort of racial or cultural grouping that I am aware of, and this seems like a case of overzealous modding.

There's more on the intellectual capabilities of our hurl-wielding overlords here:

I would like the infraction to be removed.

Since Beasty is both forum and cmod I've taken it here after a PM exchange. PM chain appended.

    Lumen,

Whether your statement is backed up with statsitics is not relevant to the issue of the card

I issued an in-thread warning which you chose to challenge in-thread. If you had a problem with my warning you should have taken it to PM, and not posted a response in-thread.

Sorry, but I need to be consistent - if anyone challenges mod warnings in-thread they can expect similar treatment

    Hope you understand

    Beasty

    Beasty,

As far as I know it is not against the charter of the cycling forum or Boards.ie to post generalisations backed up by statistics.

Please reconsider your warning or I'm off to DRP.

    Dear Lumen,

You have been warned for ignoring a moderator's instructions.

Discussion can become heated, we don't object to that, but when a moderator issues a warning on a thread to reign things in, it stops a heated discussion from turning into a mess.

For more information please refer to the Boards.ie FAQ (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/faq.php?faq=bie_faq_guidelines#faq_bie_faq_guidelines_forbidden).

    *Moderator Note*

Sorry Lumen, but I can't let that go

It's clearly inappropriate for me to deal with this appeal, so hopefully Black Swan will be along in due course to look at it.

As a further comment, I would draw attention to the reason given for the infraction:

"Discussion can become heated, we don't object to that, but when a moderator issues a warning on a thread to reign things in, it stops a heated discussion from turning into a mess."

Neither my original contribution nor response showed any sign of causing any heat or mess whatsoever.

I assume this is boilerplate text for this particular class of infraction, but I think it alludes to the spirit of the modding system on boards, which is to allow discussions to proceed freely until they become wildly off-topic, abusive or otherwise "dickish", not to corral opinions into inoffensive drivel.

Lumen, it's a warning, not an infraction. Beasty politely asked you to drop a point and you refused. It's that simple and you were warned as a result. This won't be reversed.

p.s. calling a group of teachers 'hurl-wielding overlords' is pretty dickish. it was around that point that I figured this wasn't going anywhere.
