Penalty points - someone else driving with UK license

Received fine with 2 penalty points. However, the owner wasn't driving the car. It was someone else with a UK license. I know you have the option to detail the other person and their UK address for them to be contacted to pay the fine. However, the insurance policy of the owner of the car isn't open, so no one else should be driving the car. By nominating another person from UK as the driver at the time, will this be flagged that the incident has an associated insurance offence? Would it be better to take the points as the owner of the car?
Any advice on this is greatly appreciated.

What you havent specified is that the person with the UK Licence is actually Northern Ireland or actually the UK.

If its northern Ireland, most (Not all so check) policies would allow the person to drive someone elses vehicle third party.

There is all sorts of restrictions on this mainly around age and vehicle type though.

Does the driver have GB car insurance? Get them to check their policy, the 4 car insurance companies I've had since passing my test in GB have all included the 3rd extension, ie driving other people's cars with their permission. In each case, the geographical limitation included Ireland. (This was an important feature for me as I spend a lot of time back home driving various cars.)

I got done for speeding on my Brothers motorbike. He filled in the form with my name and address, I got a new fine in the post a few weeks later and paid. No one ever asked or cared was I legally allowed ride the bike once I'd paid the fine and taken the points, I was legal.

Don't know how it will work with a UK person but assuming they pay the fine I can't see it going any further.

No the person didn't have gb car insurance. So he shouldn't have been driving the car at the time. This is what I'm concerned about. Thanks for the responses to date. My insurance definitely doesn't cover anyone else driving the car either.

To be honest, I don't honestly believe that they check for Insurance at this stage nor will they. Nominate the driver and let them deal with it.

I'd take more notice had you not joined especially to ask this question.

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean Corktina?

On other responses, am in agreement it was completely stupid on owners part to let this happen. Thanks for all advice on the above. I didn't think it was possible to trace to insurance either. But would be cautious of nominating someone else for the points, in the event that a much more serious issue fell back on the owner.

Any time I have gotten a speeding fine in the post there was always a UK licensed driver "driving" my car at the time.

Never had any questions about it afterwards once the fine is paid.

Hi. I've got a letter from Garda. Speeding fine. I wasn't driving, the car is on my name only. I filled in the details which I knew about the driver and sent it back in the envelope enclosed. The letter should come to driver. What if she refuses to pay or claims she wasn't driving?

    What ended up happening?
I am in a similar position.
