A stupid question here. I haven't flown abroad yet and am planning a flight to Wales from Ireland. Can I also file the return flight plan with Shannon or does it need to be sent to the UK?

Any time I've come back across the water I have filed via the IAA website and never had an issue. I guess as long as you specify the addresses it gets there

Not a stupid question at all.

Also...I remember hearing some time back that special branch needed to know about UK-Ireland-UK flightplans, is this still the case?

Unfortunately, yes, at least 12 hours. Even just to pop across the border. They mostly don't turn up to meet you, though Caernarfon seems to be the exception to that.

Yes, Caernarfon is where I'm headed and I have heard SB are extremely fussy.

    Thanks for the info guys.

There's a good bit of info here which might help. It's labelled flying to the UK but the reverse is mentioned too.

But really it's quite straightforward as long as you fulfil all the over the top security rules.
