Avensis sound on startup?

I know its hard to diagnose without hearing noises but lately our 1.6 Avensis T25 has been making a slight growl sound at startup when cold, it disappears within 2 secs?

    Sounds like an Alfa variator??

Anyone any ideas what it "could" be? Thanks in advance.

Could be the sound of the engine before the oil reaches up?
It would of course be more of a tappety sound.

Possibly, was hoping to hear from other owners to see if it was common?

Well its possible its a growl from the timing chain (i think its a chain rather than belt on those). Is it slightly quiter after an oil change ? On many cars if you stick to the often unrealistic service intervals the oil degrades and causes chain problems. I have seen this problem on other 1.6 toyota engnes.

A Toyota has 15,000 km (or once a year) service intervals, so there wouldn't be problems with oil degrading if the car has been properly serviced.

15,000km is just over 9,000 miles. I believe if you are using normal oil thats to long an interval regardless of what toyota says. If you are using fully synthethic or always doing long runs its different.

Thanks for the replies, it is due a service so will report back once the Oil has been changed.
