Skull Mount suggestions

    I got a super red stag this rut - once in a lifetime fella. I'm doing a skull mount and wanted to ask your opinions. I prefer skull cap cuts but looking on the net there is a lot of the better stags with long nose & short nose cuts - is there a reason for this ?
    I am not goign the official measurement route so trophy measurement rules need not apply.

    Also I usually mount on a nice hardwood shield in a European style and had one left over from last mount I did. its too small for this guy and thought about a piece of native timber cut with chainsaw and trimmed/finished ?

    any experience/suggestions appreciated; he's all set to mount now - cheers
