    HI

When you pick up the Freesat channels from the UK (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc) are they broadcasting in HD (High Definition)? And if they are would you need a receiver box with a HDMI cable port to take full benefit of the signal going into your HD TV?

    You'd need:

    a) a HD Freesat box
    b) a HD TV (obviously!)
    c) a HDMI cable (or equivalent HD cable - componant etc).

A HD box and HD telly getting video from a scart is a no-no! ;)

    Hope this helps.

The HD versions are in HD and unless you have a newish tv with an inbuilt freesat decoder well then you would require a freesat HD box with HDMi in order to avail of the HD channels.

    Thanks Guys
I have a new TV, a Smart Samsung 5000 series. I'll check out the specs of the TV.

Or a generic DVB-S2 satellite receiver will receive all fta HD satellite broadcasts, but a freesat one would be easier to use.

To clarify; both SD and HD versions are broadcast on FreeSat. A FreeSatHD box will have 101 as BBC1 and 108(I think) as BBC1HD etc. (these are changing soon with HD becoming the main channel).
A standard FreeSat box will decode only the SD channels. So if you don't have all the HD hardware, you'll still receive the full set of channels, albeit in SD mode.
