Staining a Wooden Pew

    Hi,

I got this really old parana pine pew, which i've stripped back, and taken off all the years of stain and varnish.

Could anyone suggest how best to add a colour to this, (not painting, as i'd still like to see the grain).
And could I spray a matt lacquer on top of a stain/wax, as i've two young children, so i'd need to protect/clean it from time to time.

    Any ideas would be great!

    Thanks,
    Little me.
