Where are you looking at it?

If you're looking at the one I think you're looking at make sure you have it checked fully by an indy to include verifying SH.

In fact, regardless of where you're buying make sure to have it checked out. ;)

Lovely cars to look at, great road presence and really comfy.

Looks savage in black and with those wheels man.

I dont know anything about their reliability but havent heard any horror stories.

As always verify the service history and get it checked by a friendly mechanic, and best of luck with it mate.

Big yes from me, had the pleasure of driving one of these for a few days over the summer (was the 08 facelifted Turbo though) and found it very capable, comfortable, quick and enjoyable to drive. Looks wise was never really a fan of the original model, looks very soft or something. I really like the facelifted model (with the new headlights, taillights etc.) though.

I say go for it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭johnmurph01

    Cheers guys,

Its a face lifted turbo version indeed - sorry, I forgot to mention this.

Its a private sale actually - FSH and < 50k on clock. regardless I have someone lined up to give it a good going over.

Opinion seems to be pushing in favour of it!

Am looking for a jeep but not really feeling anything outside the cayenne at the moment (although yet to drive a range rover sport)

There is no denying that they are very ugly. However that appears to be their only drawback, they are fast, comfortable and nice to drive. They're also very good off road, my uncle is into showjumping, he keeps a lot of horses and he used to drive one all over the place, he reckoned it was as good as a discovery. Although I think most owners never take it outside suburbia.

    This maybe? http://www.carzone.ie/search/BMW/X5/4.8i-NEW/29513437756591990/advert?channel=CARS

X5's can be heavy on the bills...and like that one, hard to find anything with reasonable mileage

Was offered one of these a while back with a blown engine. Was so tempted to buy it and stick a 5 litre v10 Diesel engine from a touareg into it. Shouldn't be that big of a job seen as they're basically the same thing.

Drove a proper one and it was great. With prices coming down now, if you could afford the petrol it'd be a no brainer.

I've driven both extensively and would take a Turbo Cayenne over the two of them any day.

Ha - my S.O. has wondered if the old paper pink ones will become 'collectible'.

Not, I'd say. But 'sought after', maybe.....? Shades of those boxes at car shows with 'brown' tax books. Time to diversify for boxes for pink paper licences, anyone :p ???

I'm a big fan of the Cayenne and have been soooooo close to buying one so many times now I am even annoying myself.

They are an engineering masterpiece in my opinion - the size of an SUV with sports car ish handling. I think you need to drive an RR Sport, Touareg or full size RR to realise how far from car like any of them are and to realise just how good the Cayenne is.

the reason I haven't bought one is - well, to be honest, the bills. My brother in law had an 05 Cayenne Turbo. While he could live with the petrol costs ( in Europe, so expensive ) it was the other stuff that's just in a different league. Servicing is outrageous and frequent, and ultimately its really not that fast ( it's still 2 tonnes ) compared to an M5 say, which bar the offroad/snow capabilities probably can carry as much luggage etc. The interior isn't that special and the ride unless it has air ( which the turbo has ) can be giggly ( Just realised I am getting old )

And lastly, there is something going on as 5 have gone off carzone in the last 3 weeks. The one I had been lurking after ( an S ) sold the day before I finally went to see it  after months of being on the web just waiting for me. The salesman in Conlans BMW couldn't believe he had sold it the very week I rang he actually said "I thought I would be stuck with it for months"

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Are you looking at the black or the silver one?

I drive a Cayenne S (4.5 V8), so non Turbo, but its more than enough ;-)

Who ever is looking at the Porsche Cayenne please be made be aware of the following.. The vehicle is an import from UK (northern Ireland) with no history from its time there. This information was not forth coming.I had to run vin number and only then was i told that it came from outside the ROI.. it does have a lovely interior and drives well. However if i am not told that about is history what else would i not be told..

Err, probably my dummieness, but is 7950 not a bit, err, cheap? What's the catch??? I'd be a bit wary of the, err, cheapness. Is the engine still there?:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 flan5577

Milage is quite high.. plus expensive to maintain roughly €900 per service every 20,000km. excluding elements that are outside of normal service. insurance etc. Finally putting it through the NCT every year (which is always a fun past time ). All of that plus not everyone enjoys the special feeling of paying roughly $120 a tank for petrol.. So will this stop me buyn one.. hell no.. :)

The fuel costs alone on the turbos are just horrific.

not really sure about cayenne, i have jeep grand cherokee , '00, back home, with 4.7 v8 engine, well it is fuel guzzler, when keep pressing accelerator hard every time you move , but when going on motorway, within speed limits, it takes 9 liters on 100 km, city drive in average 18 l/100 km , wouldn't use as daily driver, but for goin out, lots of comfort and fun.

Range rover no? They're not awfully good off road to be honest, I've pulled one out with the defender once.

The amount Range Rovers and just about any Land Rover are hyped up by the British motoring media is just hilarious IMO.

I find it's the same with Jaguar, I personally don't like the XF and think it looks incredibly dated inside and out. Same with the XJ.

    Land Rovers are good though...

On the Cayeene, Id be all for it if the Turbo version. The bottom end 3.2 version seems to be a glorified Touareg and considered their are 3 Touareg models faster than that, misses the point entirely.

You'll see a few more between now and christmas I'd say. I wouldn't do too much looking in case the owners get the wrong idea...

Ha, ya......I think I know where you're going with that.

Maybe the below will help you a bit.
When I bougt the Cayenne earlier this year I looked a several other cars.
The only thing I wanted was an SUV with a petrol engine. No Diesel!

    BMW X5 4.4V
Engine not bad but the only V8 X5 that was available had problems with the gearbox

    Volvo XC90 2.5T and T6
The T6 engine is a 3 liter Twin Turbo charge engine but with a 4 gear automatic. This thing is rubbish.
The 2.5T was not that bad but the engine is too weak for the weight of the car.

    Touareg 4.2V8 and V10 Diesel
Interior is ugly/not my style. Rear view very limited due to head rests of the rear seats. V10 Diesel is quite powerful but loud and sounds like a traktor

    Range Rover
Dont like the Design of the Range Rover and no Range Rover Sport was in my price range

    Cayenne 3.2, 4.5 and Turbo
3.2 engine is too weak and fuel consumption is about the same as the V8 due to constantly being on the gas pedal to keep the car moving.
Turbo TBH is too thursty for me so I went for the S.

I drive my car everyday 60km to work and back and average around 11-12 liter petrol on 100km.

The car has a 100 liter tank, so not sure where you would fill it up for 120 EUR... Filled it up yesterday and paid 140 EUR as had some petrol left in the tank.

The Cayenne is certainly a good car and is one of the SUVs that still can do off roading if needed.
And, if anyone says get a Toureg remember, only the rear doors and the roof are the same aas the Touareg and some stuff "behind the scene".
Other than that its a Porsche.
