    Hi Folks,

To cut a long story short, this time last year the plan was to complete the marathon next week in under 4 hrs. However after a disaster of year resulting in knee surgery i'm now at the stage where I'm about to get back on the horse again and start running again.

I have taken things easy and am back cycling about 2 months and now plan on hitting the road a few times a week and see where it takes me. The main question is how should I approach this?

Current plan from now till Christmas is basically just get the body used to running again and basically run 5-8 km 3 times a week. I'm not worried about times as not having run in 6 months and about a stone heavier I know I wont be bale to achieve times form last year.

After Christmas I plan to do a 10km training schedule and set myself a goal depending on how the winter goes.

Any thoughts or should I do things differently?

    Kev.

That seems like a good plan, once you are comfortable with the 3 short runs a week you could add another day and do that for three weeks and then add another until you are up to 5-6 days a week of easy running. After than add a long run off no more than 25% of your weekly mileage eg if you run 40 miles a week then start with a long run of 10 miles. Then if you are feeling up to it start a specific distance training plan if you want. All of the running should be at an easy pace until you are up to 5-6 days a week.
