Black cars?

What's your opinion on buying a black car? We all know they look great when they are washed and polished, but they show dirt so easy. I had one black car for a very short while - basically it would be washed and looking fantastic, but after an hours driving it would look dirty again - very annoying. I'm Thinking of my next car (Audi TT) and wondering should I go black for it or avoid it. Yes silver is safe but I've never been a huge fan of it although the TT does not look bad in silver either.

I'm just not a huge fan of washing my car all the time - would I really regret buying a black car do you think? What are your guys experiences?

Black or any other dark colour requires you to keep on top of the cleaning. They can look well when polished up but any little scratch will show, dirt stands out more and so too do swirl marks.

I have a black car, haven't washed it in about 3 months. Its boggin', but I couldn't care !

It shows up every mark and scratch too. A high maintenance colour from my experience.

Black is best but only in the drive. Not worth the trouble unless you are rich enough to employ a boy to clean it. When I sold a black car and replaced it with a grey/silver model it I was set free!

I just went from a white car to a black car. I wasn't aware black cars are as hard to keep clean looking, so I have a certain amount of egg on my face, after saying to the dealer "Won't miss keeping that white car clean".

I also just bought the power washer from Lidl. It'll probably work for about 3 washes

On my second black car if you've got the choice then don't do it! It's a pain in the ring! Wash and polish and a few minutes later the Sahara has been and gone and left your car covered in sand and highly visible....

I always try to buy black. looks the best imo. Just give it a good scrub, touch up all marks and small scrapes and apply a few layers of good quality wax when you first get your car. Then a quick wash will bring the shine back up when ever you throw a bucket over it. Do this (polish etc..) about once a year and do it right and your car will look the business.

    Hope this helps

I swore i would never buy black.
The GF had a black EP civic from new in 2004 until 2009 and i swore, never again!
Too much work, too easy to dirty, scratched too easily, every mark visiable......

    then what did i do...i bought a black E60.....:D

Sometimes when buying second hand, you have to look past the colour and buy on condition, spec and history, which i done.

If i was buying brand new, i'd be boring and buy silver, gunmetal or white.

Ok phew. I'm very glad I posted this. Yes they look good but I'm uber lazy about washing my car - I'll just got for silver and save myself a lot of hassle!

The silver TT looks fantastic, plus the best roads to drive that car on are country roads, so the black will always look filthy. Go with the silver IMO

She traveled back in time???

Joking aside, I've had two black cars. Yes, it is a pita keeping them clean. But those 5 minutes you get after just having washed/ polished/ waxed it, and it then p1ssing rain all over it are worth it.

To me, there's nothing quite like the deep gloss you get off a black/ dark coloured car.

Black looks great all washed and polished, but looks a bit crap when dirty. Silver looks absolutely **** ALL of the time. Wash it, looks shít. Leave it dirty, looks even more shít. Polish it, looks like you wasted polish cause it looks shít.
All cars look crap when they're dirty! Buy the colour you like the most.

I'll add a second post to this because as a used car buyer, I feel quite strongly on it...
STOP BUYING NEW SILVER CARS PEOPLE! Use the imagination! I can't understand how anyone actually pays more money, sometimes up to €1200 on metallic paint and chooses Silver! You paid money to make your car look horrible!
Everytime I go to buy a used car, almost all the best examples are friggin silver.

My cars are black and I use turtle-wax-zip-wax.jpg in hot water to wash the cars every week and I use a bit more than they suggest. They are polished at least twice a year and have never seen a sponge - I use a microfiber/woolen mitt. I've one car 12.5 years and the other 8 years. TBH a clean and polished black car is hard to beat, my next car will more than likely be black too!

If you buy black you will regret it the first time a handbag is brushed off it, or a door taps it. Never again for me - light colours hereon out.

I like my cars like I like my women - green.
