    Who has right away when a cyclist is coming along in the cycle lane and going straight on? The cyclist I assume?

    The cyclist, regardless of who is ahead of who.

    The cycle lane is marked as continuing straight on through the junction, so for you to turn left you are cutting across another lane of traffic. Any traffic already in this lane has priority over you.

    Also, do you drive a truck/bus? If not, then you should be taking the slip about 30m before the junction.

    If I'm driving along and there's a cyclist BEHIND me are you saying I should stop, hold up traffic and let him pass before I turn left!?! :eek:

    Unless you have enough time to turn left without cutting him off, then yes, you need to stop and let him pass. You can only proceed to turn left when the cycle lane is sufficiently clear to allow you to do so safely.

    It's common sense. There's a slip-road there to ease congestion - use the effin thing.
    Not using the slip simply adds another vehicle to the line waiting at the lights.

    fairly sure a cycle lane is the same as any other lane in traffic priority, just that its limited to bicycles.
    you cant cut them off and they cant undertake on the left except in the usual circumstances and some new additions under the new laws
    so just use common sense based on distance to junction and speed etc.

    thats my own interpretaton and IANAL!

    Not as black and white as that. I often dont use the slip road as when the lights are green the traffic from the other side can cross over if there is no other car coming up to the lights.

    So you end up taking the slip road and then yielding to the traffic coming from the right so you are just causing congestion on the slip road then.

    Fair enough.

    I'd often come in that road on a Sunday evening, and it's rare enough that I wouldn't be sitting in traffic at those lights....

    i know the junction, but not well enought to know the light sequence, but is there 2 green lights indicating that you wont always be able to turn left there anyway? probably for the pedestrian crossing.

    personally i would just use the slip as theres a filter light for traffic turning across too so you would only lose right of way when the lights are red anyway so still should work out quicker

    No you can loose right of way even when the lights are green. If there is no traffic coming from James St the traffic coming out from Dame St direction can trun right towards the quays and you end up blocked getting out of the slip road.

    It is a problem during peak traffic from time to time.

    that makes sense, looking at bridge street on streetview there, the traffic is heavy enough even tho its light on thomas street. although there could be a time difference.

    on the original question, (not the boards.ie trademark tangent), do agree or disagree with whats been posted?
