Ford owners towards VW owners

It was recently described to me that the envy that ford owners have towards VW owners is similar to the envy Android owners have towards Apple iPhone owners. And this can be shown on a few points.
Quality, Costs, Performance, Resale Value, Reliability and Snobbery.

Quality: Ford owners get really mad if you mention this, and start ranting about VW owners perceived feeling of quality in the cabin because of “tactile plastics”
Costs: VW owners pay too much, this really maddens Ford owners, as VW owners have paid for and received a quality product, how dare they.
Performance: Don’t mention the GTI word, it’ll get the Ford owners dizzy as they reply by repeating “Focus RS”, if you respond with Golf R type it may result in an aneurism
Resale Value: It really annoys ford owners that VW owners have the Gaul to ask for so much when they trade in or sell on.
Reliability: VW’s have to be serviced at regular intervals. Whereas you can keep driving a ford until it dies. Which is probably why you don’t see that many older fords around, as in 10+ year old models.
Snobbery: Buying a ford doesn't make you cheap, just look it. And even if you are cheap, it shouldn't matter. But this can be the cause of envy. Although the likes of the VW Golf has been described as classless (All classes of people drive it) – you can’t say the same for an escort or a focus. And this causes Ford owners serious palpitations.

Although all of the above points could be described as behaving in a rather irrational way towards something that is entirely in the persons head regarding something that basically is a device to bring you from A to B.

For clarity I should point out that I have a ford and a VW so I’m not bashing either, just observing. Would anyone else agree?

I would be considered a VW fan-bai thusly i am also the go to guy amongst my family/friends for car advise, everyone that has come to me in the last year enquiring about mk4/mk5 diesel golfs and what to look for i have steered towards a TDCI ford focus,i think the last shape focus (not current) is a great car.

If some one came looking about performance petrol versions i'd steer them towards the GTI.

I recently drove my brothers 02 shape high mileage and much abused TDCI mondeo i was taken back by how well it felt and less it had aged compared to B5 passats i've drove recently.

    Horses for courses.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
