Sky RF and Terrestrial digital

I currently receive analogue BBC and ITV. I have a free to air sky box with the RF function sending this picture to 2 other televisions. I have saerview on these other 2 TV’s. I have tried to tune in Terrestrial digital BBC and ITV on all 3 TV’s however it is not picking up. At the weekend, I disconnected the RF cable and inserted the aerial directly into the main TV and the digital BBC and Itv were received. The skybox seems to be stopping the digital BBC and ITV for some reason. Why does the Irish digital work through the RF/distribution box and the UK digital does not?

I believe the UK digitial system runs over dvb-t2, whereas the Irish one uses dvb-T. Wonder if the sky box cannot send the dvb-t2 signal.

It might also depend on your aerial, I had a similar issue where going through my sky box (saorview signal) the signal was too strong. Had the aerial going into 2 boosters before it was getting to the sky box. Took one of those out of the mix and it worked.

What UHF channel is your sky box rf using? It may be the same as the freeview signal and therefore blocking it. I believe you can change it in the settings.

Which UHF channel does the Sky box use for RF output (might be easiest to check what the remote tvs are tuned to)? Do you know which transmitter you are getting the terrestrial UK channels from? There could be a clash of frequencies.

I am receiving the signal from Strabane. The RF was tuned to 68, so I changed it to 45 and no difference made. I then turned the power off to the RF and again did not work.

You aren't getting UTV on Freeview from Strabane & won't until switchover on Wednesday.

Channel 45 is in use at Strabane: 42 & 39 will complete the 3 multiplex output from Wednesday: then anything above ch. 60 or from ch. 32-38 should be usable for Sky box RF, for now anyway.

The RF power is for 'magic eye' remote senders & 'loftbox' type distribution amps.

How strong/what quality signal is it when aerial is attached directly to tv? Could the sky box be attenuating the signal just enough to lose it?

There is good quality picture with the aerial connected directly, no break-up. I forgot to take a reading.

maybe someone with a bit more technical info might help here but i think you've an input for your aerial and 2 outputs top one is a loop through for the aerial and the second one rf2 is for watching sky on a second set so try taking a lead from both and and combining them into one cable then putting that into your tv. i think you can use this in reverse

The only difference between RF1 & RF2 is that RF2 has a switchable (via service menu) 9 VDC power supply for remote eyes & loftboxes etc. Otherwise, both just carry the output of the Sky box RF modulator, combined with whatever is fed into RF-in.

Combining the RF-outs into one feed isn't going to solve anything.

there you go someone with a bit more info than me. maybe if you're not using magic eye try it from rf1 and see if that works, but i presume you are.

Someone who's had his hands on a Sky box: hardly a rarity & I would have thought a minimum for posting on a thread dealing with Sky boxes . . .

I've had several but fair enough just trying to help.
