Occurred today. Only 8 passengers, pretty poor load factor.

    From AvHerald.

An Aer Arann Avion de Transport Regional ATR-42-300 on behalf of Aer Lingus, flight RE-3201/EI-3201 from Kerry to Dublin (Ireland) with 8 passengers and 3 crew, was enroute near Shannon when the crew reported the left hand engine had been shut down as a precaution following some mechanical problem probably as result of a bird strike. The aircraft landed on Shannon's runway 06 about 10 minutes later.

I think the lack of passengers is more of a news story than the bird strike!!

It could have glided home with 11 people on board.

I doubt that route would have any chance of operating if there wasn't a PSO on it.

That said, I don't know the timings on it so it could be like the Donegal route - one direction on each rotation is busy, the other very poorly loaded; because there's quite a lot of people who need to get to Dublin for the day and very few who need to get to north west Donegal.
