Chimney Blocked!!

Ive had the house 5 years but have never used the fireplace. It seems to have been left so you can have a gas or an open fire. Ive got the gas tapped off at the side of the fireplace and the gas pipe removed.

However theres some metal about 4 feet up the chimney blocking any smoke from being drawn up. Ive asked a few people and they have said it could be builders rubbish.
Anyone know if this should be in the chimney and how to remove it ???

    See photos attached

    Thanks Joe

looks like the hangers carpenters use to hang ceiling joists?

get a clothes hanger or two and you should pull it down no problem.

its a joist hanger alright, or maybe even a pair of them, from looking at the first picture, try if you can reach, to push them up, and maybe the will dislodge each other, that is if there is two, pulling down is an option, though may get stuck hard in the bend.....

Thanks for the quick replys lads. It seems to be fairly well wedged alright. Will try to push them in and hopefully it will dislodge them. If not a chimney sweep might have come accross it before.

    Cheers Joe

Looks like a jack wall hanger. They are big enough! Id say you'll have to push it all the up! Best of luck!
