I know that Saorview set-top boxes and IDTV sets pick up the overspill of BBC SD channels on the Border (UTV and Channels 4 and 5 available from 24 October) but will they pick up the overspill of Freeview HD channels?

PS: I know that Freeview HD and Saorview are MPEG-4.

    Freeview HD only boxes!

Freeview HD uses DVB-T2, so only boxes or TVs with this specification will receive it. Most, if not all, current Saorview STBs are DVB-T only and will not work, but some Saorview TVs do have DVB-T2.

All Saorview equipment certified from January 2013 onwards will need DVB-T2.

    Enda,

Did you get the Freeview HD set yet? Did it work? I am in louth and am planning on getting a freeview hd tv in newry so i can get both saorview and freeview. Just want to check that it worked for you?

I had read that there were some issues with recording, time on tv, etc if you tune both. Any problems with this?

    Thanks

I`m in Rush North County Dublin. I bought a Freeview HD tv locally and am picking up both Saorview and Freeview SD and Freeview HD no problem.

Havent tried recording anything but time is fine. Freeview channels show up straight after Saorview channels with full EPG info. Can also be re-arranged with my model tv.

I have a Toshiba 40RV753B (Freeview HD) which receives Saorview HD.

Which PVR do you have? Did you set the country as Ireland or UK on the device?

My TV has built in Freeview HD tuner and also a USB connection for connecting an external HD for recording, live pause etc.

Its only a 26" as it was for the bedroom. Also a Smart TV too, which features I use a lot.

I paid less than the listed price but its still a pricey set. Very happy with it though and purposely went for the built in Freeview HD tuner and Smart TV functions.:)
