At what time on 24 October will the analogue terrestrial versions of RTÉ 1, RTÉ 2, TV3 and TG4 be switched off?

I know this is derailing this thread a small bit but the ads for soarview where they say you need a soarview box/tv is just plain wrong. If you don't have a satellite, UPC or SKY then yes the soarview box/tv is needed but its not the only thing that will work. I believe this should be explained also a bit more

There are lots of stuff relating to the ASO/saorview that was poorly explained or handled the 7th of Nov retune been the main point lately that people in the Mt Leinster region are unaware of.

MHEG-5 is need for teletext on digital terrestrial television on Freeview HD and Saorview.

I have a Saorview box for the Walker widescreen HD-ready TV set and, for the old Phillips TV set in the other room, a TV-Star MPEG4 receiver, on which the analogue terrestrial version of Aertel is available on the digital versions of RTÉ 1 and RTÉ 2.

One wonders what will happen with the satellite-fed analogue relays in Kerry, Galway etc.
Has RTE arrangements with sky to send an over-the-air powerdown command to the satellite STBs at these sites for 10AM!?

    Transmitters are independently controlled.

This started to get implemented in late 1970s in various countries when there were various successful attempts at "hijack" of relay transmitters. 4 x 4 up a suitable nearby hillside with transmitter and VCR to "take over" the normal feed the relay re-transmitted.

Even if a Relay was DVB-S fed only that's easily duplicated with under €5K worth of gear. Though the elevation is 23 degrees roughly, get in close enough at correct azimuth...

I've seen posts here of posters going upto mountain top relays (I think it may have been Achill or Arranmore) and discovering the door of the hut unlocked. There's no point in spending money on systems to prevent hijacking if you're gonna leave the door open.

I'd doubt sites such as Leenane are hijack prevented, sure aren't they using Digiboxes inside to broadcast, there was no seperate uplink dish on the pictures that Antenna posted from what I saw anyway.
