How are you connecting the box to the TV? What are you using to get a signal?

OP, it should work on the older TV, you may need to manually tell the TV to switch to the SCART port, that may just require you to press the 'AV' button on the remote though the Saorview box can normally switch the TV over automatically because one of the pins in the SCART wiring exists precisely for that purpose.

Are you able to get a signal using Rabbits ears on other TVs?

saorview boxes don't add any new signals to what they get in from the Aerial.

You can only connect with SCART or HDMI cable.

You will need to use a modulator to hookup the old TV
if you have a VCR with two SCART sockets you can probably use the AUX channel on the VCR to sent it to the old TV
    (SKY boxes don't work :( )

Check Freecycle / Adverts.ie for people getting rid of portables - it's probably a cheaper option than getting a modulator.

Don't connect anything to the aerial socket on the old TV, as far as you're concerned that is now redundant or at least it will be from Wednesday. The only thing that will work is a SCART cable.

You have a Saorview box and an indoor aerial and they work with two TVs but not with the portable.

Are you by any chance moving to different parts of the house when testing and is there a chance that there simply is no signal in the room where that portable is located? I know you call it a 'portable' but sometimes that can mean a 14" mounted on a stand in a corner of the kitchen. Maybe there's no signal in the kitchen or wherever the portable is located.

What you need to do is to take the portable to one of the locations where the indoor aerial is already able to supply a decent signal to the Saorview box and one of your other TVs can receive the digital channels. Simply pull the SCART plug out of that TV and plug it into the portable and see what happens.

By doing it that way, you remove as many components from the equation as possible. If the portable doesn't work, it's not the aerial and it's not the SCART cable so the SCART port on the portable is probably faulty.

Edit: One other thing, you didn't mention if you're connecting the newer TVs to the Saorview box via HDMI or SCART?

Bit late now but most devices with SCART let you choose RBG or CVBS (or A N Other) output

RGB gives better quality , CVBS is plan B

But always worth a check of the SCART cable too ;)
