I have both, but use the pump unless I'm tight for time. I upgraded the commuting (and winter training) pump to a zefal hpx, but on the race bike i generally only carry the canisters.

I carry both but personally I would never carry only CO2 on a long spin as if you are unfortunate enough to have multiple punctures or waste a canister you can run out of CO2 whereas elbow grease is a much more renewable commodity!

There are some pumps that will take a canister which is probably the best of both worlds as you have a fall back if co2 runs out, and can just use the pump if you want either.

I carry both. Pump as backup, CO2 to get the pressure 'cos I can't be arsed pumping for that long.

Co2 can't pump hard enough as my 12 volt compressor, yes they are great for the saddle bag but track pump for home use.

My tyre is a bit soft from puncture on Wednesday after being inflated by co2, max pressure is 120 but tyre is mister softy.

Co2 seeps out quicker than air so you really should empty and re inflate when you get a chance.
Also, 16g of co2 will fill a road tube to 120 and a mtb to 50, easily enough to get you home.
