Winter is approaching.......they are expecting snow and ice over the next 5 months......the DAA don't want to be caught unprepared as they have been over the last 3-4 years......
I think that pretty much covers it.

I drove by the helicopter facility (opposite Ballymun Kickhams) the other day and there were around 8 big shiny brand new top of the range snow ploughs lined up.

That hasn't been a helicopter facility for years, surely?

Maybe it has been a couple of years. It's now down as the Airfield Maintenance base (bottom of map).

We didn't get anything last/this year (2011/2012), very little morning frost either! Is it supposed to be bad this year?

A lot of the experts say yes. Supposedly the Gulf Stream still hasn't shifted to where its supposed to be and we could be in for it big time this winter.

Really? How bad will it be? Will it be like other years, 09 and 10?

What happened in '09 and '10 was that the gulfstream didn't protect us from the Arctic cold fronts.......it appears it may not do so this winter either. Some long range forecasts for the insurance industry are predicting lots of snow and sub-zero temps over the winter.

Remember that we are the same latitude as Boston in the US. For decades (centuries?) the warming effect of the Gulfstream has shielded us from the arctic weather.
